Rose Hill 2023 Season Highlights

As another incredible season closes, let’s take a closer look at this season’s highlights.

- The tour guides at Rose Hill are the reason it was such a successful season. They bring the stories of Rose Hill alive, sell merchandise in the Gift Shop and help visitors with information on the local area. I would like to thank Nancy Wright, Maryrose Arimoto, Cindy Austin, Dawn Jendrick, Allison Chapin, Christine Murphy, Rebekah Clark, and Kerry Adams for all their hard work.
- Allison was a guide a few years ago and returned for the season as she wraps up her PhD.
- Kerry assisted with the pond’s cleanup. Her dedication and hard work took an eye sore to a charming landscape feature.
- Nancy completed her 14th season at Rose Hill.
- The Gift Shop was very successful. I want to thank MJ Benda for all her hard work, time, and help with group tours and events. We couldn’t do it without her, and we appreciate all that she does.
- Our first Rose Hill intern, Alice Russo, helped with group tours and completed a project.
- Throughout the season, Rose Hill hosted a variety of programs and events that celebrated history. From summer concerts to specialty tours, there was always something happening.
- The annual Family Day saw the largest crowd (155 people). I want to thank our partners for making this another successful event – Ward O’Hara Agricultural and Country Living Museum, Genesee Country Bobbin Lake Guild, Ontario County Dairy Princess Olivia Maslyn, Ithaca Maple Works, the Freier family, Joan Burch and the Time Travelers .
- For several years we’ve partnered with Reynold’s Battery to host a Civil War program for Seneca County middle school students. This year the encampment was opened to the public.
- In addition to 22 states visitors came from Switzerland, Germany, England, Canada, New Zealand, Israel, Belgium, and Costa Rica.
- We had more group tours over the season, and I’ve already started to book groups for 2024.
- Hobart and William Smith students were onsite for their Days of Service. They helped move heavy stuff, prepped the fence around the pond for painting, and cleaned. We hope to see more students in the spring.
As we wrap up another incredible season at Rose Hill, it’s evident that this historic landmark continues to captivate visitors from near and far. Whether you’re a history enthusiast, agriculture lover, or simply seeking a serene escape, Rose Hill offers an unforgettable experience. We look forward to welcoming you back in the spring with new exhibits, events, and programs.
