Loan Fund
Established in 1965 by Warren Hunting Smith, the Fund for Historic Geneva, provides low-interest loans for exterior restoration projects on buildings in Geneva’s South Main Street and Genesee Park Historic Districts, as well as for other eligible properties. These loans are intended for the restoration or rehabilitation of historic features which add to the aesthetic and historic integrity of the buildings. They are particularly for changes which might not be accomplished without financial incentives. Over the years, Dr. Smith’s legacy has been of great benefit to Geneva’s outstanding architecture heritage.
Loans are generally not given in amounts over $10,000. On occasion, amounts may exceed that limit. Loan terms are for three to ten years. Payments can be arranged on a monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, or annual basis. Loans of $10,000 or more require a second mortgage on the property. For lesser amounts a promissory note must be signed.
Loans must first be approved by the Fund for Historic Geneva Committee. Final decisions are made by the Board of Trustees of Historic Geneva.
