Three images of piled vegetables: one of fresh green beams, one of long winter squash and one of purple and variegated dried field corn.

The Three Sisters—beans, squash and corn— were staple Native American crops.

Historic Geneva's 2022 History Sandwiched In series kicks off online on January 19, 2022 at 12:30 p.m. Curator John Marks will look at the foodways of the Seneca Nation. From maple syrup to the Three Sisters, foods developed by the Seneca people of the Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) play a role in many American dishes. John will explore the history of these foods, looking at the details of hunting and gathering based on written accounts and archeology from the Geneva area.
