My Geneva Is…Home Edition
Back in November 2020, we asked community members to submit photos which represented your Geneva and explain why in a few sentences for the My Geneva Is… exhibit. In this edition, we’re asking for photos and captions based on homes.
For those of us who work in the Geneva History Museum, we come into 543 South Main Street five days a week, aware that this building used to be a family home. The house has gone through drastic changes in its almost 200 year history, from its construction in 1829 to 1960 when it was gifted as a permanent home to the Geneva Historical Society through present day. It holds memories of the families who lived here, especially the Prouty and Chew families whom the house is named after. Our favorite memory is of our visitors’ experiences walking into our museum and discovering something new about Geneva.

In an effort to expand our photograph collection, we invite all Genevans, current and former, to submit photos of houses around Geneva from any time period and explain in just a few sentences what that house means to you. It doesn’t have to be your own home; it could be your dream home or a house that you drive by every day and has caught your eye.
These submissions will become part of the new My Geneva Is…Home Edition exhibit to open in fall of 2021. Photos and stories will be added to our permanent photograph collection.
