Rose Hill Mansion by Agnes Swan Hutchins, 1912

Born into wealth in the 1800s, Agnes Swan Hutchins (1864-1951) and her daughter Margaret Hutchins (1897-1961) had the leisure time to pursue their own interests. Freed from the demands of domestic labor and economic necessity, Agnes and Margaret were able to develop their own artistic talents. Inspired by the Finger Lakes region and their travels, they expressed themselves through paintings and sketches. Whether alone or with groups of fellow artists, Agnes worked in watercolors while Margaret preferred oil. Without Asking Permission: The Art of Agnes Swan Hutchins and Margaret Hutchins will be on display in the East Tenant Cottage at Rose Hill from May 1 to October 31, 2025
