Early Barns, Farmhouses & Agricultural Structures
October 27, 2022, 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
In this program sponsored by the Antiques Club of the Finger Lakes, Carol S. Bailey covers the evolution of barns in the Town of Lyons from English threshing barns to modern dairy and current pole barns. The early crude structures are far removed from the sleek pole barns that dominate new farm structures today. She will show slides taken in 1997 while she was historian for the Town of Lyons. Carol addresses such topics as why barns are red and explores other agricultural structures found in rural areas. She will also discuss styles of farm houses from federal to bungalow styles. Her talk will cover the reasons for the demise of barns and the need for their preservation.
The Antiques Club of the Finger Lakes is in its 48th year of programming. Meetings are free and open to the public, but membership is welcome and encouraged at $10 per year. Programs include meetings at the Geneva History Museum, field trips, and social events. See our Facebook page for more news.
