Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Statement
Diversity: Historic Geneva is dedicated to telling the stories of all people in the Geneva community regardless of race, ethnicity, gender or sexual orientation, physical ability, religion, socioeconomic status, and age.
Equity: Historic Geneva believes in equal representation in its collections, exhibits, programs, and online content, and by providing access to its buildings and resources.
Inclusion: Historic Geneva shares the responsibility of storytelling with the community and visitors.
Historic Geneva is committed to diversifying its collections, programming, staff, board, and audiences in its mission to share and preserve Geneva’s stories. We are dedicated to telling these stories regardless of race, ethnicity, gender or sexual orientation, physical ability, religion, socioeconomic status, and age. Through our collections, exhibits, programs, and online content we believe in equal representation. We also believe in providing access to our buildings, collections, and other resources. Historic Geneva shares the responsibility of storytelling with the community and visitors.
We recognize that our organization was founded for and by privileged white men. Our current objectives include intentionally seeking stories outside of this historically narrow range to reflect Geneva’s diverse community, both historically and in the present day. This goal is front and center in all our decision-making and activities.
Moving forward, Historic Geneva staff and the Board of Trustees will incorporate several actions to promote its DEI initiatives. This includes, but is not limited to,: diversifying our board, committees, and volunteers; continuing to highlight marginalized voices in our storytelling; increasing access to our buildings, collections, and other resources; continued commitment to best practices and professional standards related to diversity, equity, and inclusion; and encouraging an active interest in preserving Geneva’s history.
