Mr. Editor: I would hereby tender my sincere thanks to the officers and members of the fire companies Nos 1 and 4, as well as to the Hook and Ladder company, for their prompt and energetic service on the occasion of the burning of my late residence; and I can only regret that the speedy exhaustion of water prevented them making, not only a more efficient but more effectual effort in arresting the progress of the flames.
