Antiques Club of the Finger Lakes: A Look Back at Historic Snowstorms of Central New York

The program “A Look Back at Historic Snowstorms of Central New York” will be presented by the Antiques Club of the Finger Lakes on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2023 at 2:00 pm only though Zoom in association with Historic Geneva.
Presenter Jim Farfaglia will look at historic snowstorms in the counties of Cayuga, Cortland, Herkimer, Jefferson, Lewis, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, Ontario, Oswego, Seneca, Tompkins and Wayne. Central New York, a region renowned as one of the snowiest in the world, has a long and stormy relationship with its winters. Over the years, cities, towns and hamlets east and south of Lake Ontario have found themselves buried from brutal snowstorms. Jim Farfaglia's new book, Historic Snowstorms of Central New York, covers 200 years of memorable storms. His presentation will include a PowerPoint program of photos, video and graphics from the past storms as well as a selection of survival stories from the book.
Jim Farfaglia lives in and writes about the history and traditions of Central New York. In 2011, after a fulfilling career directing a children’s camp and advocating for youth, Jim transitioned to his lifelong interest in writing. Splitting his time between poetry and what he calls “story-driven nonfiction,” Jim's books include Nestlé in Fulton, New York: How Sweet It Was, Pioneers: The Story of Oswego County’s Search and Rescue Team, Voices in the Storm: Stories From The Blizzard of ‘66 and Of the Earth: Stories From Oswego County’s Muck Farms. He is a recipient of a 2022 CNY Arts, Inc. Individual Artist Commission, which allows Jim to share his inspirational poems throughout Central New York and beyond. For any problems with registration or to register by phone, call the Historic Geneva office at 315-789-5151. Registrations must be complete before 5 pm on January 27, the day before the program.
The Antiques Club of the Finger Lakes is in its 48th year of programming. Meetings are free and open to the public, but membership is encouraged at $10 per year. Programs include meetings at the Geneva History Museum, field trips and social events. See our Facebook page for more news.
