A view of the Denton House (Parrott Hall) at the Agricultural Experiment Station with its barns and fields around 1900.

Have you wondered about the status of Parrott Hall, the large ornate building at 630 W. North Street in Geneva on the campus of Cornell AgriTech? You are invited to attend a program on “The History of Parrott Hall” on Saturday, January 4, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at the Geneva History Museum in the newly renovated Hucker Gallery. The program is sponsored by the Antiques Club of the Finger Lakes and is free and open to the public.

Bruce Reisch, Chair of the Friends of Parrott Hall, will discuss the history of Parrott Hall through present-day efforts to rescue and rehabilitate Geneva’s first property to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places. He will present their vision for its future.

Bruce Reisch is a Professor Emeritus at Cornell University, where he worked in the field of grapevine genetics from 1980 to 2023. He was involved in various efforts to save and re-purpose Parrott Hall over the years, resulting in the formation of the non-profit organization, The Friends of Parrott Hall, in 2017.

Working closely with the City of Geneva, The Landmark Society of Western New York, the Preservation League of New York State and Historic Geneva, he has helped raise over $1.2 million dollars to repair and renovate the roof, rotted supports, and the ornate veranda. Reisch will review progress and present the vision for a restaurant/education center connecting Cornell innovations in food and beverage sciences with the public.

The program is presented in cooperation with Historic Geneva and is free and open to the public. The Antiques Club of the Finger Lakes' meetings are free, but membership is welcome and encouraged at $15 per year. Dues are used for room rental fees, honoraria for speakers, and modest support of social events. Programs include meetings at the Geneva History Museum, field trips, and social events. See the Club's Facebook page for more news.
