"Burying Crockery: John Johnston and Tile Drainage in America" and "Fayette-Born Artist Robert S. Duncanson"

This program is co-sponsored by the Fayette and Geneva Historical Societies. John Marks, Curator of Exhibits & Collections for the Geneva Historical Society, will present "Burying Crockery: John Johnston and Tile Drainage in America.” John will give a brief history of John Johnston and his use and promotion of drain tile, bringing the history of drain tile up to the present day.
Thom Shanken, Town of Fayette Historian, will discuss Fayette-born artist Robert S. Duncanson. Born in 1821, Duncanson is the first African-American artist to be recognized internationally. He is considered to be a second-generation Hudson River school artist, specializing in landscapes.
This program is free and open to the public. A reception with refreshments will follow the presentations.
