A large group of very young men in civilian clothes standing with men in military uniforms front of a plane labeled Military Air Transport Service.

Young recruits arriving at Sampson Air Force Base in the early 1950s.

Join Historic Geneva Curator John Marks for a short and informal History Happy Hour at Lake Drum Brewing on Thursday, November 17 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. John will share a captioned slide show highlighting images documenting the three military installations at Sampson military base. Begun as a WWII Naval Training Center in 1942, it transitioned to a state college under the GI Bill after the war, and an Air Force Base at the outbreak of the Korean War in the 1950s. Come in any time, stay as long as you like! The slides will run on a continuous loop throughout the time. John will be available to chat and welcomes people with stories and photos to share for future programs.
