April 23, 2025, 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

An arrangement of small stuffed birds inside a glass dome posed as if flying around a tree.Join us on April 23 from 3 to 5 p.m. for an opening reception for the new exhibit Juxtapositions: Selections from the Historic Geneva Collections curated by Hobart and William Smith students in the class Critical Museum Studies, an introduction to the history and theory of museums. The reception is open to the public and refreshments will be provided.

The primary focus of the course is museums' role in colonization, memory-making, nation-building, and the opportunities museums offer for social advocacy. Students spent the semester researching and selecting objects from the Historic Geneva collection under the theme of juxtaposition. Choosing two objects, they examined how the objects worked in concert with one another to illuminate issues in history and collecting.

Juxtapositions: Selections from the Historic Geneva Collections will be on display at the museum from April 23 – May 24, 2025.
